WebTUTOR - Taking Learning Beyond the Classroom!

Designed to complement Thomson Delmar Learning's textbooks, WebTUTOR is a content-rich, web-based teaching and learning aid that reinforces and clarifies complex concepts. Studies have shown that students can learn more and have a better grasp of a subject when they learn in a variety of different ways. WebTUTOR offers students the tools to maximize their understanding. It also helps your students manage their time, check their progress, prepare for exams, organize their notes, and more.

WebT utor is available on either the WebCT or Blackboard platform and provides communication tools for instructors and students. WebTUTOR includes a course calendar, chat, e-mail, threaded discussions, plus all the features available on the platform you prefer. Content of either WebCT or Blackboard includes:

-	Chapter Learning Objectives: Correlated with textbook chapter objectives.
-	Online Course Preparation: A listing of what students should have read or done prior to using on-line content.
-	Study Sheets: Outline the content of each chapter and also contains notes. Study Sheets can be printed to help students learn and remember important points
-	Glossary: Provides definitions for terms in each chapter or in the course as a whole.
-	Flashcards: Allow students to test themselves on word definitions.
-	Discussion Topics: Posted to encourage use as a threaded bulletin board and as assignments to develop critical-thinking skills.
-	FAQs: Provide questions (and answers) that students may have about the specific content.
	Online Class Notes: Provide additional information about the chapter content.
-	Online Chapter Quizzes: Given in various formats: matching exercises, true-false quizzes, short answer questions, and multiple-choice questions with immediate feedback for correct and incorrect answers. Educators can see how long a student spent on each question and how many times the student took a quiz.
-	Web Links: Provide students with practice searching the web for information. Learners chose from a variety of web links and report findings to their instructor through e-mail.

WebTUTOR on WebCT and WebTUTOR on Blackboard platforms both feature flexible, innovative on-line tools, community content, and tools to develop and manage Web-based and Web-enhanced courses.

WebTUTOR on WebCT and Blackboard can be used as is or it can be completely customized. You can change or add quizzes or other content to suit the specific needs of your students. And you can hide or release content based on your students' mastery of the subject. Both WebCT and Blackboard allow you to add your school logo, or add content and graphics.

WebTUTOR makes it easy for everyone, regardless of computer knowledge and experience. If customization is not for you - no problem! WebTUTOR courses are designed as "ready-to-use" teaching tools. You can customize as much or as little as you want - the choice is yours!

WebTUTOR lets you closely monitor student progress and participation. If some students are doing poorly in class, WebTUTOR helps you quickly determine how much effort they are putting into it. For example, you can see a report on how often they log on, how many pages they cover in a study session, how they do on quizzes, and whether they have participated in an on-line discussion or posted a topic.

Thomson Delmar Learning makes it easy to get started with the WebTUTOR in your classes. Simply choose which hosting option you prefer. WebTUTOR on WebCT or on Blackboard can be centrally hosted (hosted by Thomson) or locally hosted (campus hosted). With central hosting, we provide you with a web address (URL) for your course. We also work with WebCT or Blackboard to maintain the server that stores your course. We provide full tech support through WebCT or Blackboard to teachers and students. With local hosting, your school or campus Information Technology personnel are responsible for maintaining the server and assigning the URL for the course. Your school must have WebCT version 2.0 or higher installed on your server, or Blackboard version 5.0, so you can download and install WebTUTOR content locally. With campus hosting, technical support is available to you through the school's IT Department.
